American soldier casket

American soldier casketOne of the things you may not ever want to see is an American soldier casket, because it means that a soldier has lost his life in service of his country.

Some people may wonder to themselves if they have actually ever seen a casket like this. Those who need to ask themselves this question in all likelihood have not seen one. People usually know one when they see one for a couple of different reasons.

• Carried by soldiers ? In an effort to honor their fallen fellow soldier, other soldiers from the fallen soldier’s group will dress in full military garb and carry the casket off of the plane as it arrives back home. They will do the same as they carry the casket into and out of the funeral home.

• The flag ? Perhaps the one thing that differentiates a soldier’s casket from other caskets is the fact that the soldier’s casket is not only carried by fellow soldiers, but also that it is draped with an American flag. This flag is able to symbolically show that the whole nation appreciates the sacrifice that the soldier has made in giving up his or her life for a greater cause.

• Where it is buried ? Often, American soldiers who have perished in war are laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. These soldiers are laid to rest alongside their fellow fallen soldiers and among presidents and other important American leaders.

The American soldier casket is something that is saluted and appreciated by many. These caskets themselves are not a lot different from most other caskets that you see, but when you add the flag and the soldiers and the ceremony around these caskets, this is what sets these caskets apart from others.
